I’m inspired daily by those who strive for a cause OTHER than just self fulfillment. The other day I came across a few quotes by fashion designer EKINYEO that read “People pride themselves on the strangest and most insignificant things.” Another EKINYEO quote was “People are so beautiful when they are humble.” Those quotes are exactly why I pay less attention to those who are all about self-self-self, me-me-me, my-my-my, and I-I-I. And pay more attention to those that attempt to get the attention of others for reasons OTHER than themselves and their people. Was VERY inspired back in November when I came across info in regards to Tour De Badness a local expedition that will benefit hunger/homelessness, heart disease, abuse, cancer, and creative arts. I blogged about that event HERE-and yesterday when I checked my inbox Clyde, of image.in (one of the hardest working Creative Groups in Houston) emailed me information to spread the word about Royal Badness' Tour De Badness. I immediately thought back to November and thought “I’m already on it…literally!” I’m typing ALL of this to say, if you can, please assist this young lady (Bevin Biggers) and Tour De Badness by spreading the word! If you are a Texas blogger please share this info…no need to retype just post the link to this post on your blog. Tour De Badness is in need of volunteers, bikers, and forms of other support. Tour De Badness is bike tour that will start in Houston, Tx on March 11th, 2012, leading to & ending in Austin, Tx. Tour De Badness is an event to raise awareness of causes such as hunger, homelessness, abuse, cancer, the funding & cultivation of creative arts & other issues that plague the world. For Tour De Badness I had huge dreams, hopes, and dedicated time and effort to piece together a sacred embodiment of people to spread love and hope to those in which needed guidance, support, and power to strengthen them in their situation; to let them know that someone was there. I have used every will in my bone not to give up hope myself, but through the inconsistencies of help I can not show everyone the dream I pictured. The depiction of reconstructed buildings for Project Row Houses in the 5th ward community, families moving from the cold streets to warm homes, little girl dying of cancer getting a chance to make her last wish, and the ample amount of ways this could have shaped the community in a compelling way . I had days to where I would not sleep for hours and days at a time just to send hundreds of emails and get rejected in my university's computer labs, but continued to push this. I have pushed until my arms weakened, legs fell to the ground, and knees kissed the floor begging for an understanding. This is real. Left by my roommate with a two bed roomed apartment, scraping for money, selling my items to stay above water, without a computer or car and frequent ignored texts and emails. I had to choose one. Working to pay the bills, and to stay afloat is what I had to choose because there was no other choice. Will there be any events, hotels, buses, galas, or anything I told? Probably not. But life happens, and just as life is happening to me life is happening to those I am trying to help. In that, I apologize to everyone that was looking forward to being apart of this, truly I appreciate it. Thus understand that I will still be biking to Austin March 11 rain sleet or snow, because I cannot not give up on people even in the state of my condition. I may not have all of the resources in the world, but know that the show must go on. You are more than welcomed to come with me if you truly are devoted to empowering, strengthen, and making someone in a dire situation know that someone is there, if not...you can catch me making a trip to Austin for all of my community. I think that they would understand.

Amazing how one question can spark a trail of memories! My sister phoned this morning and asked “Who is REBECCA WEINBERG?” And my memory bank instantly replied “That stylist from Houston with the pretty TEXAS tattoo?” I then thought: I never did a “DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS…STYLE!!!” post in regards to Rebecca! And I need to be popped for forgetting about the person who made me think “That is it! I want to do what she does as a hobby!” My thoughts exactly after seeing an episode of the STYLE Network’s “THE LOOK FOR LESS” waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day (Shout out to SISTAH OF HARLEM for inspiring me via the “THE LOOK FOR LESS” during that time as well). I followed Rebecca’s career, online and on TV, for a year or two after that. But once she started working as Costume Designer/Wardrobe Stylist, along side Patricia Field, for the “SEX IN THE CITY” cast it seems Rebecca was no longer on TV as often as she had been in the past. And with that I’d forgotten about her…UNTIL NOW!

I told the client below she's SIDE OF STYLE's very own Mary J. Blige when it comes to her personal style. I'm excited every time I have the opportunity to style and or select pieces for her...she goes with the flow and wears everything exactly how I pictured it!

Not every SIDE OF STYLE client wants their photos online for public viewing and I completely understand and respect that. This particular client allowed me to photo share and I'm glad that she did! This is the perfect example of seeing a piece on a model and second guessing it because of "curves"...ladies with curves please get out of that shell! If you really knew me you'd know I am SERIOUSLY-NO JOKING AT ALL-AFRAID of giving birth! I've heard horror stories about child birth, and I've also heard stories that have eased my mind. But either way I always have been and always will be afraid of child birth! But this isn't about me...it's about Mrs. Carter. When I looked at her grimace below I felt as if she was a bit afraid or nervous about something. I mean with this being her first experience with child birth I completely understand if she was nervous/uneasy about delivery. I would've been attached to my mommy's side as well.But the hardest part is now over and I applaud this HOUSTON HOTTIE for remaining a HOT STYLE MAMA down to the last minute!

Ahhhh...NEW YEAR'S EVE! The one day where everybody wants the glitz & glam look...ladies whip out their shiny dresses and the guys polish their church shoes (Luvs it!). As I was looking through a few party photos from NYE in Houston I saw several photos of stylish girl groups, stylish ladies standing alone or with another glammed up female, and the guys gave the suited and booted look from head to toe. But what I noticed more than anything were the stylish couples! All synchronized with their outfits...of course I'm not sure if these were actual "couples" but according to the photos below they "go together" in more ways than one!

Couple #1 What else did this young man need, a young man that was so dapper it looks as if he's fresh off the set off the movie "Takers", than a gorgeous young lady to compliment his haute look? The draping in the back of her dress won me over...and I'm such a sucker for sequins!

Couple #2 I'm also a sucker for retro fashion and when a man is bold enough to step into mid 1960s and give us full on "Rat Pack" for 2012...how can I not post him and his stylish lady friend? And speaking of his lady friend not sure if that was the bottom of her dress or a skirt but that ostrich feather detail complimented her mates look extremely well! Who else is getting 1920s-1930s from her look? All Josephine Baker with the feathers!

Couple #3 Was it his Versace for H&M (I think) suit with gold brooch on the lapel that made me give all praises to the style gods!?!? Or was it the lovely lady's over sized Prada sunglasses, statement necklace, with small earrings that made me darn near stand up and clap for their photo like I was at an awards ceremony?!?! Those were the questions I'd asked my self after viewing their photo...I'm calm now but at the time those 2 had me going!

Who out there has that southern granny that still calls a bra a "brassiere"? Maybe it just my granny LOL! That word was lingering in my mind with all the bra talk I'd been doing since yesterday evening!

One of the most exciting things for a "no lifer" like myself is to be introduced to a brand and fall in love with it on sight…or in this case on fit! I received an email from Hannah of LAFORCE + STEVENS inviting me to come out for a free bra fitting, a free Wacoal bra, and cocktails. And instantly I thought “What is Wacoal?”, I in turn researched the brand online and saw there was a lot of “full coverage” going on with this brand so attending was a must (for a busty chic who loves full coverage bras!). Not only was the food, drinks, and setting ubberly amazing but Hannah, along with Wacoal’s reps and Hotel ZaZa’s staff, made you feel pleasantly at home. I showed up in the outfit below and was introduced to a brand that I instantly added to my list of favorites! Wacoal donates to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation which is a big plus…I look forward to attending another Wacoal event later this month to make a donation via purchasing a Wacoal bra! Yep, I was in bra heaven while getting a chance to kick it with my sister (she’s below in the pink/black polka dots) and catch up with some of my favorite blogger honeys Reiko of GOD'S FAVORITE SHOES and Dee of MORNING CUP OF STYLE (They are the stylish beauties I’m pictured with below). A Wacoal rep gave some very good advice my mom gave me years ago: “A stylish outfit is nothing without a good bra or shape wear underneath."

WHAT: Men of Style, which honors men in the Houston community who have shown a sense of fashion savvy and dedication to community service while raising funds to find a cure for sickle cell disease, announces its 2011 honorees.

WHO: Presented by, Let the Fashions Begin, Inc. benefiting the Texas Children’s Sickle Cell Center and Sickle Cell Patients.

GALA: The men will be honored at the annual Men of Style Gala on Friday October 28, 2011, at 6:00 PM.

WHERE: J. W. Marriott, 5150 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77056

WHY: Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that causes an abnormality of the structure of the red blood cells which tend to get stuck in blood vessels, leading to excruciating pain and sometimes life-threatening organ damage. Approximately eight of every 100,000 people African-Americans and the disease itself affect one in every 400 African-Americans, and one in 1,200 Hispanic-Americans. All funds raised benefit the Texas Children’s Sickle Cell Center to find a cure for this disease.

I have not had the time to catch up with this young man for an official interview...my schedule is nonstop and I regret it at times! But I do know he goes by the name Willi Stiles and he and I connected on Facebook awhile back after Clyde, of Image.In , told me Stiles designed multi finger rings. Since connecting with Stiles (on Facebook) I noticed he oversees several street wear brands, is a philanthropist, and loves-Loves-LOVES HIS SON! It's usual for a guy to log on Facebook and tell of haps from street running the night before...but it's unusual for a guy to log on Facebook and tell what his son did the night before or earlier that morning. Stiles also headed a campaign "NO REST FOR THE HUNGRY" that focused on food bins all over Houston to assist with feeding Houston's hungry...glad to see another person in the style field that knows AND shows it's not all about us! And for that alone "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS...STYLE!" salutes you this "MEN'S STYLE MONTH" Willi Stiles. Continue to push your brands forward and putting your son FIRST; HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO YOU AND THE REST OF THE YOUNG FATHER'S OUT THERE PUSHING TO MAKE IT!

Remember the SIDE OF STYLE "ENHANCE HER fight CANCER Giveaway" details that were plugged HERE during the month of May? Well the super publicist MJRoyPR and I worked our bums off at an attempt to spread the word. I plugged the giveaway details whenever I saw fit and MJRoyPR did the same! He sent out press releases and the whole nine, hardworking dude he is! But to my surprise my inbox was quiet as a mouse as far as the cancer giveaway submissions goes. It paled in comparison to giveaways SIDE OF STYLE launched in the past. Stats showed the posts/threads were being read but I guess readers could not relate. I knew any attempt in that form is a gamble and the month of May came and went without one entry. No discouragement felt at all, but I hate that I didn’t get the chance to be of service to a female who deserves it…but I know she’s out there! THE earring designer/artist, Zulane (look her up), posted one of her clients in some of her pink breast cancer ribbon earrings. Not only was I wowed by Zulane’s design but the female who wore them made me want to re-launch the cancer giveaway all over again! She posed in all of her glamorous glory; I would’ve thought she wore her beautiful buzz cut haircut by choice! After linking with her, via Facebook, I’ve became even more inspired by her. On my personal Facebook page I see status update after status update of senseless topics...NO SUBSTANCE AT ALL, complaints, and arguments! But this female status updates, in the midst of her chemo treatments, read statements like “I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH…BUT WILL YOU ALLOW ME TO ENCOURAGE YOU? HE DID IT FOR ME AND HE’LL DO THE SAME FOR YOU!” Encouraging update after encouraging update in the midst of her struggle...who can relate? She is co-founder of Dallas based SEXY AFTER 30 www.sexyafter30.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sexy-After-30/156503329867 , owner of http://www.lashesandmakeup.com/ , a fighter, and a SURVIVOR- KoCo Powell, and she has allowed me to share personal photos from a recent photo shoot that took place in the midst of her battling CANCER! So beautiful, so stylish, so inspiring! Ladies it may be and it could be us one day; be inspired/encouraged!
