My sister, who has rocked natural hair for some time now, keeps stressing the fact that FEBRUARY IS NATURAL HAIR MONTH! My sister and other natural hair chics have inspired me, recently, to go that route. I'm currently in the early stages...and I've finally got "I NEED A PERM" out of my vocabulary...it was a tough road to cross...Natural ladies I SALUTE YOU! Here's a personal piece I'd posted last November on my sister's FaceBook wall when she felt a bit perturbed when a couple of dingbat females down talked NATURAL KINKY NAPPY CURLY hair in her presence...I now need it to encourage myself on this PERM FREE journey:
---Shout out to my "COLORED GIRL" that wore her hair NATURAL BLOWN OUT NAPPY KINKY CURLY FRO PUFF TWISTED long before it became a movement! That's called bold...that's called strength...that's called courage! You have enlightened so many around us with your courage to rock your hair CHEMICAL FREE! Amazing how "our" people can easily give props to "doll hair" plastered into a 27 piece...but LOOK DOWN on/criticize those who chose "our" natural roots. I salute you my sister...my love...my strength!---

Below are some of my favorite STYLISH NATURAL HAIR CHICAS from TEXAS!

713 to 718...

I had the pleasure of working on my first project with a determined individual who is focused on making the brand SOUTHERNEWYORKER a brand to watch! The brand SOUTHERNEWYORKER will be a mix of NY fly and a little SOUTHERN comfort. Having spent time in both NY and the South the brand's creator presented the line to me; a mix of original screen print tees, handmade accessories, and (THE LOVE OF MY LIFE) vintage. It didn't take much after seeing the collection for me to get on board! I took some pieces, that I'd been hoarding in my style closet/kits, and merged them with the SOUTHERNEWYORKER brand for a styling concept-the photo below is a result of that mix and a SNEAK PEEK of what's to come! As soon as the  SOUTHERNEWYORKER brand website is launched DMWTS readers will be some of the first to know...the website will be stocked full of goodies to purchase so DO stay tuned! I applaud the brand's creator for the hard wok and determination...and truly give thanks for putting me on board as the site's Wardrobe Stylist. And last BUT CERTAINLY not least I applaud the gorgeous models, the Photographer for his flawlessness, and the Make Up Artist for her refreshing work!

Back in November I was longing for Joan & her girlfriends and created this "WHAT WOULD JOAN WEAR?" look. It's a mix of 3 random BRIGHT colors with neutral accessories/shoes. I'm still feeling the color mix and I'll be sure to wear it this Spring/Summer! Hmmmm...maybe even with a bright colored shoe as well. And that was my 2---STYLE---cents!
Stay far from average ;-)

Came across this haute photo of Solange from 2008...or was it 2009 when she cut the hair off again? Either way, I've seen the American Apparel disco style pants worn all KINDA ways...but none were put out like I'd style them...well not until I saw Solange in them! This photo is so on point I had to post it just for the heck of it...

A year ago today I was awaiting to hear the reviews (and see photos) from Bryant Park for one of my favorite designers. Instead I received a call from my sister saying he'd committed suicide.
Today I pray for his family and friends...again...

The Austin Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger/Fashion Stylist Assistant...

I keep saying this…and, possibly, I may end up repeating it 157 other times..BUT it’s sooooo refreshing to come across a true lover of not just FASHION but STYLE! Not the female that professes to be a “shoe lover” and have a closet full of stilettos…but the female that says she's a shoe lover and have a closet full of shoes of all shapes and styles! Stilettos, block heels, cone heels, platforms, wedges, clogs, flats, sneakers…get it? And on any given day that female can be seen sporting either or in a chic’ outfit that screams PERSONAL STYLE! Well that’s exactly what Austin Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger/Fashion Stylist Assistant Kristina, of the blog Stina Chic, exuded when I viewed her blog…A TRUE LOVER OF STYLE! Kristina I’m sure you will get to wherever you’re attempting to go in the world of style/fashion...just make sure you keep blogging about it! We’ll be reading ;-)

THE DALLAS Fashion Stylist/Personal Shopper/Fashion Guru/Fashion Blogger/Online Boutique (With a little HOUSTON sprinkled in the mix)...

Back in July I blogged about Houston style maven, Reiko, HERE . And now it's like the STYLE TWILIGHT ZONE because there's something in me that won't allow me to blog about Dallas style maven, Juanette, without mentioning Reiko LOL! I'm so glad the style forces brought these two young ladies together because it's like we have two Reikos or should I say two Juanettes? Either way it's twice the style, twice the natural hair, twice the fashion, twice the fun! With that being said meet, Fashion Stylist/Personal Shopper Juanette of the blog Fashionnette-Work ! I've been reading her fab blog for sometime now and it dawned on me I'd never blogged about this TEXAS GIRL with style as big as TEXAS! I think me blogging about Reiko may have given me the feeling of blogging about Juanette LOL!  But as much as I think these stylish ladies are a 2 for 1 deal it's good to know they were somewhat thinking the same...the two have merged and ladies we now can shop their closets via their website:
So good to see females come together, brainstorm, and make things happen! I'm too excited and wishing BOTH Juanette and Reiko much success on their style journey...stay encouraged ladies!

Where did January 2011 go yall? Woooow! With time moving as quick as it has been I want to again SHOUT OUT and encourage all the STYLE HUSTLAZ out there, yall know I have to do that every quarter! Image is the “in” thing now and with top stylists like June Ambrose/Rachel Zoe and top style teams like “House of Glam” (amazing how I never watched not one episode of either show…but I will tune in for Mrs. Ambrose!) are on the reality show front exposing thousands to what goes on behind the scenes I expect to see more people wanting to play a part in the style game. After years of research it still excites me to know there are so many tunnels and turns in the style game. Last month I stumbled upon this article about Lauren Deatherage, a Product Trend Analyst for Cotton Incorporated. Here’s an excerpt, from Lauren’s “ALUMNI PROFILE”, that gives the full run down of what she does in the world of style:

“Lauren’s duties include researching and developing comprehensive seasonal trend forecasts 18-24 months ahead of the selling season for mills, knitters, converters, manufacturers, designers and retailers. As a trend analyst, she must continually conduct extensive research internationally to find the most forward thinking concepts in color, fabric and apparel silhouettes. Through this global research, Lauren must monitor culture variants and keeps a pulse on lifestyle trends and consumer attitudes that directly affect the fashion and apparel textile markets. On a daily basis she consults with mills, major manufacturers and large retailers, and provides them with innovative ideas and product direction. In addition to domestic companies, she works with influential clientele and presents at major industry trade shows throughout Europe, the Far East, Central and South America.”

Who knew working for Cotton Incorporated could be so rewarding; I wish Lauren had a reality show surrounding her job!
And with that being said SHOUT OUT TO THE STYLE HUSTLAZ!: the Product Trend Analysts, Fashion Designers, Textile Manufacturers & Suppliers, Wardrobe Stylists, Fashion Merchandisers/Sales and Marketing, Buyers, Fashion Journalists, Fashion PR Reps, Retail, Garment Centers/Districts, Visual Presentation, Fashion Creative Directors, Fashion Production Managers, Fashion Photographers, Fashion/Lifestyle Bloggers, Models, Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists, Nail Artists, Fashion/Lifestyle magazines, Boutique Owners (store front and online), Assistants (in any style field), and last but not least the FASHION INTERNS! Stay encouraged yall! (Lauren Deatherage ALUMNI PROFILE Here and image Here )
