THANKSGIVING GREETINGS WITH A SIDE OF STYLE (And a side of dressing, side of collard greens, side of dirty rice, side of...)

THE TURKEY DAY COUNT DOWN HAS BEGUN!
I'm opting to wear an over sized top and some jeggings for that elastic waist action...that way I won't have to sit with my pants unbuttoned by that 3rd helping...I know I'm not the only one right LOL?
Since I'm on the subject I would like to take this time to give thanks to every and anything pertaining to my style journey! A big THANK YOU to any and everyone that has shown SIDE OF STYLE luv in any form…whether you “Liked” the SIDE OF STYLE Facebook page (wrote on the wall, left a photo comment, or liked a photo), retweeted SIDE OF STYLE/DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS STYLE info I post on Twitter, sent an email/text message to SIDE OF STYLE to network or to encourage, saw where SIDE OF STYLE could do the job and sent the job my way, worked with SIDE OF STYLE in any form, viewed/left comments on DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS STYLE blog, told someone about SIDE OF STYLE because you knew it would benefit them…THANK YOU...your actions and positivity towards SIDE OF STYLE (and my style journey in general) do not go unseen! AGAIN Thank you, I appreciate the interest and the luv…have to and will remain HUMBLE...regardless!
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

HOUSTON...WE HAVE A HOT ONE!!!

The other day I was reading the homie Cash's blog, (CLICK HERE TO LINK TO CASH'S BLOG) , and he did a write up about ADRIENNE RAQUEL as the next hottest photographer. After viewing just one photo of Adrienne's work, that he displayed on his blog, I instantly agreed!
---And here's my inner foodie kicking in--- You know how when you've never tasted something before and all you need is a spoonful to see if you'll yay it or nay it? Just one taste or one sip...that's all you'll need right? I asked Adrienne (who's currently calling HOUSTON home) if I can have access to just one photo of her work from her website. This photo is some of her most recent work and it blew my mind-It's a mix of still life, glam, and originality...perfection in my eyes! There's nothing like photos that seem to story tell...and there's nothing like having one taste or one sip and wanting more...and I know yall want more LOL...so go ahead and click the link below and enjoy!:

THAT HOUSTON NEWSTALGIA...

---Yet another MERRIAM WEBSTER moment here at DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS...STYLE---

Nostalgia: a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition; also : something that evokes nostalgia

Newstalgia: DARIEL

Yes, I made up the word "newstalgia" but it's so fitting for the Houston model/nail artist/designer Dariel...do yall see all that yumminess below? I had the pleasure of having this chic contact me late last year in regards to me styling her for a photo shoot (CLICK HERE TO READ ABOUT THE SHOOT) and I was elated because I knew through Dairel I would be able to express myself to the fullest! She and I both have a love for STYLE from the past...when women boldly got their NAILS DID, slid on some dope gold jewelry, and styled like the entire world was watching! To see Dariel do this in the present makes her FACEBOOK photo albums intoxicating for a nostalgia junkie like myself! Dariel DO KNOW you have a customer in line for the jewelry you're creating and a forthcoming BOOTLEGG NAIL SHOP APPOINTMENT for my birthday nails in January LOL...I'm ready to get them DID gUrl!
Keep doing your thing Dariel and continue to STAY FAR FROM AVERAGE while doing so!

Stay tuned for updates on Dariel's jewelry line and take a look at some of her dope nail designs by clicking here: Boot Legg Nailshop

(Loving the Adam, Eve, and Serpent relation in Dariel's latest jewelry creations; see below)

SATURDAY SPECIAL: DENIM JACKET WITH A SIDE OF STYLE

Today's style menu is so simple...any size/frame can use a denim jacket as a layering piece right? Doesn't matter if you want your style plate completed with a sprinkle of CLASSIC DENIM, ACID WASH VINTAGE, an updated SHEARLING, or an updated POWER SHOULDER denim jacket...it's an easy way to throw a finishing touch on any look at any size. Remember when all else fails don't forgot to add "denim jacket" to that style recipe!

THE DALLAS STYLE BLOGGERS...

Personal Style isn't always "Personable" at first glance...depending on where you are it could seem abnormal & weird...but it will turn a head quicker than the finest chic you know! A few weeks ago I walked in church one evening with my head wrapped in a leopard scarf, electric blue long sleeve silk blouse, black satin harem trousers, black round toe pumps...it was the norm to me! But my (bama) cousin gasped in disbelief and whispered "YOU COMING IN CHURCH WITH THAT THANG ON YO HEAD!? I DIDN'T KNOW A FEMALE WAS SUPPOSE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE LIKE THAT!" After I read him his rights he dumbed it down but he still didn't "get it". And I'm fine with that LOL! The other day I stumbled upon Diamond of the blog, Trash and Caviar , with her head wrapped up turban style in a leopard scarf  and I felt a sense of sisterhood (as lame as THAT may sound LOL)! And to know she has a sense of sisterhood with someone just as stylish as she is so good to know...heck, sometimes your friends don't "get it"! I contacted Erykah, the other half of Trash and Caviar , to give my salute! She informed me that she and Diamond both work in retail (In Dallas), Diamond is a native Texan, and Erykah is Nigerian. Everyday chics making their marks in the world of style...I'm loving it and their blog! Go ahead and add it to your favorites: Trash and Caviar

THE HOUSTON MODEL EXHIBITION...

I'm so out of the loop on some things...how did I not notice my boy Clyde model exhibition started? I knew of it but thank heavens I noticed it's in effect in enough time to stop by and check it out! And if you want to get enlightened you should do the same! Oh and CLYDE ELLINGTON GRANT III, remember the name!

THE TEXAS STREETWEAR EXPO...

Streetwear = YOUNG MONEY...not as in YOUNG MONEY the music...but youngsters ATTEMPTING to get to the money the legal way. My sister, whose forever a sneaker collector, put me on to events like sneaker summits, sneaker expos, etc. I've attended a few cross Texas with her and during our first road trip to SNEAKER HUNT, as I would put it, I was not too pleased at the thought of spending a Saturday afternoon in a muggy room full of sneaker deranged folks! But when I arrived I was shocked to see the event taking place in a nice spot, nice sneaker arrangements, nice displays laid out, clothing, and accessories! And not only well known brands, but young people trying to feed their streetwear brands to the masses...caps, hoodies, t-shirts, and accessories-all well thought out like or even better than some of the brands I see on Karmaloop and other streetwear websites. Unknown brands...these youngsters were hungry and hustling; at times there can be beauty/passion in the hungry hustle. I was excited to see that TEXAS streetwear brands are hungry enough to organize/be apart of events like STITCHED UP: A TEXAS STREETWEAR EXPO. More info can be found via FURFACE BOY, a Texas streetwear designer, blog...check it out below. And BIG UPS to the YOUNG PEOPLE, or anyone for that matter, that are following that dream! Following instead of chasing the dream...you chase things that are trying to get away from you. And chasing can exhaust the best of them! Following is steady, humbleness, and will keep that dream right in front of you! Enough of my mentor moment LOL...CLICK THE LINK BELOW!!!:

SOLO STYLE...

Solange received mixed reviews on her outfit choice at a recent RANGE ROVER event. Well I'm forever singing praises to Solange's IN YOUR FACE style...can't say this enough: I LUV IT! But was it 2007...2008, maybe, when she wore the same tunic cut romper to an event all dolled up as a completely different look...who remembers besides me? Loved the fun look then, love the I'M GROWN/I'VE GROWN look now! STYLE is Solange...period!

THE HOUSTON DESIGNER/WARDROBE STYLIST...

Now yall know how I feel about designers…and if you don’t know CLICK HERE. My PR buddy Mical Roy mentioned this dude in a fashion related tweet, that tweet led me to designer Jeremy Phillips’s Twitter page, seeing Jeremy's last name made me wonder if we’re related in some way (I just had to throw that in LOL), Jeremy's Twitter page led me to his website, and what I saw on his website led to this blog entry (Good to know the internet can be good for something at times!).
What I like most about CROSS by J. Phil is that it’s a mix of classic Americana with a spoonful of urban edge…that type of goodness that’ll make you want to pull your pants up as a man...and walk like a man. I think dudes in Houston may be sleeping on this cat but it's good to know the industry is not (he designs and he's a Wardrobe Stylist…that’s a one stop shop fellas!). And with that...I’m done…but if you don’t know about CROSS by J. Phil you should just be getting started by clicking HERE to check out the website/line!

And until next time STAY FAR FROM AVERAGE ;-)
