FYI...

FYI: JUNE IS MEN'S STYLE MONTH HERE ON DMWTSTYLE AND ON WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/SIDEOFSTYLE

PINK SUNDAY...

My niece, who is a HUGE lover of PINK, wanted her mom to snap a few photos of me and her together (Why? Because I had on PINK...SMH). I believe this is the 3rd time I shared photos of me on this blog but my sister screamed at me today and told me I'M A LOON (lol) for not sharing my personal style photos more often...I'm still trying to get use to that (Soooo not photogenic!). But I decided to  share these in fear of my sister swinging on me...LOL!
I'm the one in the shrug, tee, and PINK maxi skirt ;-)
(On the second to the last photo I look like Bernie from "WEEKENDS AT BERNIE" but that's neither here nor there!)

THE HOUSTON HEADTURNER...

It's a sin to blend...or at least in my world it is...

SIDE OF STYLE x PINK MUA...

I rarely have a chance to share everyday styling session photos here, but glad the photo below was posted on another blog. I had the pleasure of styling mommie-on-the-go, Mrs. Jay of Jazelle and Co Children's Boutique , in an outfit that remained true to her personal style classic, ladylike, and timeless! Be sure to check out the blog below, I think it's pretty cool for a few of us to come together with the mission of treating everyday women like they are the star of the show!

"WHEN LOSS = WINNING!!!" WITH A SIDE OF STYLE...

As a woman I tend to watch my weight, unsatisfied with my body, crash diet...who can relate? And I want to know is that just a woman thing? Anyways, I was having one of those "body image" moments when I received an email from a Houston school teacher who was seeking wardrobe styling services to update photos of herself. Once she and I conversed back and forth she stated she'd lost a lot of weight recently and was now ready for her close up. After she filled out the SIDE OF STYLE questionnaire, so I can get a feel of her as a person, I noticed her age...she was in her twenties which led me to think she probably lost a good 30 pounds...I then wondered if she'll be willing to give me some weight loss tips LOL! We further went on to link up via my personal FACEBOOK page so I can take a peek at some of her personal photos she'd recently uploaded of herself. And I noticed with her weight loss she and I were close to the same size...so I thought yea she probably lost a good 30 pounds, good for her! But once we talked more day to day I started to notice this was not one of those petty weight loss missions...this young lady lost a total of 220 pounds! Here I am not satisfied with my weight and my weight was her goal...shut me up REAL QUICK lol!
She dieted/exercised and set weight loss goals in increments of 20 pounds. She now has a beautiful shoulder tattoo of flowers, that are from her to her, with each flower representing the increments of 20 pounds loss! She was more than happy to share photos with me of her at her heaviest, and a plus size beauty she was, but it was almost surreal to see her standing there in what was at least a size 8. She also shared how she loved clothes but had the hardest time finding cute clothes for her age group in her size and with that she set her weight loss goal! THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A DETERMINED WOMAN and I hope her journey will inspire others...even if it's just one! Stay tuned for the latest SIDE OF STYLE photo album "WHEN LOSS = WINNING!!!" but in the meantime continue to set a goal, follow your dream, overcome, conquer...I can go on and on...WE GOT THIS LADIES!

THAT CHIC FROM HOUSTON...

I didn't even bother posting the video because I've seen it EVERYWHERE recently...and I loved the COUTURE WHORE (excuse the foul but I couldn't resist LOL) images more than anything! The white Givenchy Haute Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci is an image of "pretty tuff" loveliness; and below I posted 3 more looks that caught my eye after that! The earrings in the last photo had me in a trance!
However, I can't remember one lyric from the song besides when she rang out:
"This is how they made me HOUSTON, TEXAS baby..."
^^^^^I know, right?^^^^^

WEDNESDAY'S SPECIAL: MALE MAN WITH A SIDE OF STYLE

Styling a male client is THE funniest thing...some guys are deathly afraid of being sneakerless or bootless...ugh! As much as I love a man in sneakers or a pair of timbs I must say slip and slide church shoes are NOT the only option left...there's some nice male footwear out there guys!

THE AUSTIN FASHION/STYLE BLOGGER...

What I like the most about Austin fashion/style blogger Diya is that her outfit photos always include a snip it, a pinch, a sprinkle of her outfit in detail. Photos of this kind capture images of items one may not see at a glance. I remember in art class we had to draw still life...items piled up in front of us but we were only to draw what we saw from our angle. That was the dumbest, most boring thing to me ever then...but it makes perfect sense now. To see fashion/style still life...oh yes...MAKES PERFECT SENSE! Keep giving us an eye full Ms. Diya! See more of Diya's style here: IN HER STILETTOS

THE HOUSTON GRADUATE...

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to style SENIOR photos for a HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE...and it was the hardest photo shoot to pull for because MAMA had the final say! I wanted to make sure I stayed in "high school girl mode" in order to please her mother and I was so excited when she approved every look!
Congrats to the CLASS OF 2011, THIS IS YOUR TIME!

THAT HOUSTON RANDOMNESS...

I had to SMH at myself because I logged on the (HOUSTON based) website RANDOM IDENTITY (for the first time), saw the jewel tone leather pants (1st photo below), and bought them before I viewed the website completely LOL! After my check out was complete I logged back on to this very fresh and much needed website and saw the randomness in full! "Much needed" for those who love to look FAR FROM AVERAGE without breaking the bank! Not one item below is over $30.00 yet every item is one of a kind...you better log on and get yours because I sure did!

My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration...

What I heart the most about my clients is the fact that they inspire me to continue to follow what has guided me in the style game thus far. I met this young lady back in 2009 and she was then a 20 year old who at one point thought you had to have a certain body shape (no curves) to model. Ummmm...tall, pretty skin, lovely cheekbones, an hour glass figure, and she didn't think she was "model" enough...wow! After years of letting negative thoughts discourage her from modeling Monti decided to follow her dreams and give this "model" thing a try. Since then she's had several shoots for Houston area photographers, several SIDE OF STYLE shoots, walked in several Houston area fashion shows, recently moved to Los Angeles to further pursue modeling, was selected as a background video model for Pitbull/Neyo's video "GIVE ME EVERYTHING (TONIGHT)" (which premieres today by the way), modeled for a LA based jewelry line/hair salon, and now has a day job in the Beverly Center...so there's no telling what's next for her!
Monti was back home in Houston this past weekend and contacted SIDE OF STYLE for a wardrobe/shoes/accessory pull for a photo shoot that took place early yesterday morning. I wasn't able to be on set for the shoot but Monti sent a few behind the scene photos that were taken on her phone (first and second photo). I'll share the completed photos from her shoot (which included 4 outfits total and a bikini) on www.facebook.com/sideofstyle.
But today I had to share Monti's story for those of you that may needed a little push this Monday morning...whether you're working at a library, at a fast food joint, or in the image industry GIVE IT YOUR ALL!
(The third photo is one of my favorite Monti photos from the runway and the fourth photo is one of my favorite Monti x SIDE OF STYLE photos!)
